MIRAcle Worker News February 9th, 2009

MIRAcle Worker David Cates has received a Jefferson Award for his community service in helping to lead the MIRAcle Workers as we volunteer in rebuilding the Bay Terrace Theater into a community resource for use by all in the area.

A week or two ago, a camera crew from KPIX in San Francisco came out to intervew David, Jeff and Monica as part of the award story. The interviews aired in early February and can be seen here.

Auditions for “Spider Island” Announced

The scene is an abandoned lighthouse on Spider Island, 6 miles off the New England coast. Here live Abbie and Salem Mayo, two spinsters, the last remaining descendants of a once-proud seafaring family….or so they thought. On a windy night in October, comes Star Mayo, the unknown daughter of the sister’s late brother to claim her property. She is soon plunged into a series of hair-raising events. What is the Thing in the tower? Why does the axe hanging on the wall create so much fear for Abbie? Audition, or come to see the production in May 2009 to find out.

Set in New York in the summer of ‘69, Don Baker, a blind man in his 20’s, struggles to find his independence by moving away from his well-meaning but overbearing mother. Alone but happy in his new apartment, he meets Jill Tanner, the kooky free-spirited girl who lives next door. Together they begin a journey towards freedom and self-discovery. A classic coming-of-age tale, Butterflies Are Free is a delightful romantic comedy that tugs at your heartstrings.
